CHANGSHA, CN / ACCESS Newswire / October 14, 2026 / On the morning of September 17, the special exhibition Angkor of the Gods: Millennium Treasures of the Khmer Empire officially opened at Hunan Museum. More than 150 sets of precious collections from the National Museum of Cambodia, the Angkor Conservation Depot, as well as Yunnan Provincial Museum, Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture Museum, Shanghai Museum and Hunan Museum are on public display. The exhibition will run until March 21, 2027, located in Special Exhibition Hall 2 on the first floor of Hunan Museum.

Centered on the statues of deities and stone carving art of the Angkor civilization, this special exhibition is divided into four sections: “Tracing Origins: The Root of the Khmer”, “The Golden Age: The City of Gods”, “Mutual Gaze: The Radiance of Buddha Light” and the immersive digital display. It comprehensively showcases the unique cultural system of the Khmer Empire precipitated over thousands of years. Hosted in Hunan, the exhibition also facilitates a cross-time dialogue between the Khmer civilization and Hunan’s cultural heritage, creating an exceptional opportunity for cultural exchange and dissemination.
To break the static viewing limitations of traditional cultural relic exhibitions, this exhibition makes breakthroughs in three dimensions: scene setting, spatial furnishings and technological interaction, creating a fully immersive viewing experience that allows visitors to encounter Angkor vividly without leaving Hunan.
In terms of exhibition design, the exhibition uses the exquisite and intricate patterns of reproduced sandstone reliefs as the spatial background to create a mysterious and profound Angkor atmosphere. The architectural forms echo the narrative of cultural relics, guiding visitors to perceive the civilization trait of the ancient Khmer kingship rooted in the sacred cosmology within the orderly spatial sequence. For technological interaction, the fourth section of the exhibition adopts digital image creation, combined with 3D modeling animation and AI supercomputing technology, to build a large four-fold screen immersive image space. It integrates three surrounding panoramic screens with floor projection to construct an all-encompassing viewing experience, presenting a continuous one-shot visual narrative.
The exhibition spans multiple key visiting periods including the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday and the National Day Golden Week. Going forward, it will continuously expand its influence through diverse channels such as themed educational activities, digital displays and social media platforms, making Angkor culture accessible to the public in a more approachable and vivid way.
