Advent Harvest Mission Charitable Trust Foundation will host its inaugural Enderby gathering, Reviving Liberty of Conscience! — Faith, Freedom & The Future, October 30–November 1, 2026, at the Splatsin Community Centre.
The three-day event brings together theology, law, medicine, and biblical prophecy around a question that can move quickly from principle to personal consequence: What happens when a person’s religious conviction conflicts with an external demand?
A workplace requirement, institutional policy, legal obligation, or other authority can create a conscience conflict when compliance crosses a religious boundary. The event examines that tension from three distinct perspectives, giving attendees an opportunity to consider what shapes conscience, how external authority can test it, and what may happen when conviction becomes a decision.
Advent Harvest Mission approaches the subject from an Adventist Christian reading of Scripture, with particular emphasis on the Three Angels’ Messages of Revelation 14 and preparation for the return of Jesus Christ.
Three Perspectives on Liberty of Conscience
The event’s three featured speakers bring different areas of experience to the discussion.
Dr. Conrad Vine examines the theological and religious-liberty foundations underlying freedom of conscience and the Christian’s relationship to authority.
Jonathan Zirkle brings experience in prosecution, criminal defence, federal law, and religious-liberty advocacy to questions involving law, government authority, and individual conscience.
Dr. Charles Hoffe brings a physician’s perspective to the personal and practical consequences that can arise when people act according to deeply held convictions.
Together, the speakers examine the relationship between belief, authority, conscience, and consequence rather than treating religious liberty as an abstract legal concept.
“Theology, law, and lived experience each reach a different part of the same question,” said a representative of Advent Harvest Mission Charitable Trust Foundation. “One informs conscience, another tests it against external authority, and the third shows what happens when principle becomes a decision. Bringing those perspectives together gives people room to examine conviction before they are standing inside its consequences.”
Liberty of Conscience Changes When Belief Carries a Cost
A conviction can remain largely theoretical when every available choice accommodates it. The question becomes more difficult when maintaining that conviction carries a personal, professional, legal, or social cost.
Advent Harvest Mission uses conscience disputes that emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic as one recent reference point, while also examining its understanding of Daniel’s prophetic “time of trouble” and the biblical questions surrounding religious liberty in the future.
The underlying premise is practical: convictions are difficult to establish in the middle of a crisis.
The event therefore encourages participants to examine Scripture, understand the principles behind their beliefs, and think through the implications of conscience before circumstances force an immediate decision.
Sunday’s Q&A will give attendees an opportunity to bring their own questions to the theological, legal, and personal perspectives developed throughout the weekend.
